Day 6: Compare and Contrast the Life Cycles of a Butterfly, a frog and a White-Tailed Deer
Objective: Students will compare and contrast the four stages of life cycles for a butterfly, frog, and white-tailed deer.
Materials:
Tell students that the focus of the lesson is to look at what they have already learned about the life cycles of a butterfly, frog, and white-tailed deer and compare these stages. Create three columns on the board (one for each animal) and ask students to list what they already know about each animal. Once this is completed ask students what comparisons they can make out of their responses in the three columns. Write answers in a three-circle venn diagram on the board. Show the students the video Animal Life Cycles, and remind them to look for the different stages of life cycle for each animal. After the video ask students to complete the venn diagram with any new observations they can make. Instruct students to write or draw in their science notebooks the stages of each animal.
Differentiation:
Students can simply draw the stages of each animal instead of writing it out as well.
Assessment:
Check students science notebooks for the correct stages of life cycle for each animal and walk around while journaling to ask questions about each stage.
Resources:
Materials:
- Video on Animal Life Cycles: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eEeOEy0SA1o
- Science notebooks
- Crayons/markers/pencils
