Day 3: Introduction to White-Tailed Deer Life Cycle
Objective: Students will describe and identify the changes in the life cycles of a White-Tailed Deer.
Materials:
Instruction:
Students will gather on the rug and watch a brief video on the life cycles of a White-Tailed Deer. After the video students will discuss if they have ever seen this kind of deer before and what stage it was in when they saw it (check for use of correct vocabulary when describing stages of deers). The teacher will then direct the students attention to the board and place a new vocabulary word up one at a time and have students guess the definition. Once a few students guess place the accompanying definition with the word (words include: Doe, Buck, Yearling, Fawn, Predator, Prey). Have students return to their seats and pass out science notebooks and White-Tailed Deer life cycles worksheet. Students will be asked to cut and paste each stage of a White-Tailed Deer's life cycle into their science notebook and label each stage with the new vocabulary. Notebooks will be turned in for assessment. Wrap-up discussion by removing the definitions from the board and just have students raise their hands and recall the definitions for each word.
Vocabulary:
Differentiation:
Have more fluent writers in the class write the definition of the vocabulary words in their science notebooks as well.
Assessment:
Science notebooks will be turned in for assessment
