Day 2: "The Very Hungry Caterpillar"
Objective: Students will identify the life cycles of a butterfly and design their own very hungry caterpillar
Materials:
Gather the students on the rug and check the progress of the caterpillar in the jar. List any changes to him on the board. Read the students "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle. Have the students compare what happened to the caterpillar in the story to the observations they made on their caterpillar on the board. Students will return to their seats and pass out the butterfly life cycle worksheet.This worksheet asks the students to cut out and paste the stages of a butterflies life cycle into the boxes. Students will need scissors and a glue stick to complete this task. Turn in worksheet once completed for assessment. Pass out colored construction paper, scissors, and markers. Have students create and decorate their own hungry caterpillar. Collect and hang around the room.
